Women
About the pieces
The goal of these artworks was to showcase femininity amongst women of colour. A lot of times in the media, women of colour are either over-sexualized, stereotyped and/or masculinized, particularly dark skin women of colour in that regard. I wanted to capture softness in women of colour that they indeed have. I tried to emulate the renaissance in these paintings because of that period's colour palette and the way women are framed in certain portraits. I referenced existing pieces and put my own spin on them. The first art piece represents South Asian women, the second represents East Asian Women, the third represents latine trans-women and the fourth represents romani women. The last two are dedicated to black women who recieve a large amount of these masculinization accusations. I wanted to give them special attention as I am a black woman myself and have experienced this first hand. So this is aimed at all women of colour who struggle to get in touch with their femininity.
