Home is where the Heart is deals with topics of being part of a diaspora family and longing for the homeland. As a first-gen Iranian (Persian) Canadian, I have long struggled with being able to connect truly to the culture and identity of my ancestral country unlike the rest of my family. This struggle represented as a heart (being the symbol of a living being) that is patterned with chaotic and confusing swirls for the top portions, the middle being decorated with a traditional patterning from Esfahan called ‘Boteh-jaghe’, which leads to a maple leaf symbolizing Canadian identity.
