A word from the artist
Algorithms, AI, and predictive technology have quickly become all-encompassing in society, using statistics, existing writing, and other data as the basis of their 'knowledge.' The data collected by these systems include a great deal of biased information, leading to machines that re-enforce the systemic racism and oppression perpetuated by their creators.
This work imagines and builds a world where the data used in these machines centres BIPOC and other marginalized experiences. This work generates pieces of poetry that attempts to reflect these experiences.
The text is generated based on a curated selection of words exclusively written by BIPOC writers, which includes poems, essays, screenplay dialogue, news articles, and more, as well as original writing by the artist.
